Catalano Shipping Services has launched “Anchorage Intelligence”, a new digital tool designed to give yacht captains a clear, yacht-specific view of relevant anchoring areas, restrictions and regulatory information.

Over recent years, anchoring regulations along the Mediterranean coastline – particularly on the French coast – have evolved considerably, with specific anchoring areas, restrictions linked to yacht size, compulsory pilotage zones and a growing number of local regulations and official decrees for captains to take into account.

While this information is available through official sources, determining what applies to a particular yacht, in a particular location can require consulting several different documents and sources, all published in French, adding another layer of complexity for international yacht captains. “Anchorage Intelligence” was developed to make that process simpler.

From operational experience to a practical digital tool

“Anchorage Intelligence” grew out of close collaboration between Catalano Shipping Services’ Operations and IT Development teams, combining years of practical experience assisting yachts and captains with the digital expertise needed to turn that knowledge into a simple, practical tool.

Using the yacht’s specifications and live position, the platform provides a dynamic map displaying information relevant to that particular vessel.

Captains can quickly visualize anchorage areas and restrictions applicable to their yacht, identify compulsory pilotage areas, access relevant official decrees and documents, and find useful contacts for pilotage, lighthouses and local authorities.

The objective is deliberately straightforward: bring together the right information, make it live, easier to understand, and help captains make informed operational decisions.

“This project really came from what our teams see every day. Captains have more and more information and regulations to deal with, and we felt there had to be a simpler way of bringing together what actually matters to their yacht.”

Tomaso Moreno CEO of Catalano Shipping Services and Head of Fratelli Cosulich Yachting Business Unit

“I’m particularly proud that the solution came from our own Operations and IT teams working together. It is exactly the kind of innovation we want to encourage not technology for the sake of technology, but something practical that can genuinely help the captains and crews we work with.”

Early access now open to yacht captains

Following an initial testing phase with a selected group of captains and clients, Catalano Shipping Services is now opening early-access registrations for Anchorage Intelligence.

Captains interested in discovering and testing the platform can register at:

The initial release focuses on the French Mediterranean coastline and Corsica, with the platform designed to evolve as additional areas, information and functionality are incorporated.

Anchorage Intelligence is intended as an operational information and decision-support tool. Information displayed through the platform does not replace official regulations, navigational documentation or the responsibility and judgement of the vessel’s captain.
