Over the past weeks, Navimeteo provided dedicated weather routing and marine forecasting assistance for the transfer voyage of GNV Aurora, sailing from Guangzhou, in southern China, to Genoa.

The vessel, the second LNG-powered unit in GNV’s fleet and the final ship delivered in the first phase of the company’s fleet renewal plan, is expected to enter service in early April on the Genoa–Palermo route, strengthening the company’s domestic network and supporting a more efficient management of passenger and cargo flows.

Throughout the journey, Navimeteo closely monitored the meteorological and oceanographic conditions along the route, supporting the safe navigation of the vessel across several key maritime areas, including the South China Sea, the Strait of Malacca, the Indian Ocean and the Mediterranean.

The departure from Guangzhou was postponed by one day, from 9 to 10 February, due to adverse weather conditions in the South China Sea. During the following weeks, the voyage continued across multiple legs, with Navimeteo providing continuous analysis of wind patterns, sea state and atmospheric pressure systems, helping the crew navigate areas affected by strong monsoon winds, localised instability linked to the Intertropical Convergence Zone and pressure gradients across the Red Sea and the Mediterranean.

After transiting the Suez Canal and crossing the Mediterranean, the vessel reached Sète (France) on 4 March. From there, the ship entered GNV’s standard operational monitoring system and the dedicated weather assistance concluded before the final leg towards Genoa.

The operation once again highlights Navimeteo’s expertise in supporting complex maritime operations worldwide through accurate weather analysis and continuous assistance to ship operators.Commenting on the operation, Simone Damonte from GNV expressed his appreciation for the support provided by Navimeteo: “We would like to thank you for the service provided, for your full availability and for all the support given to GNV Aurora, as well as for the daily assistance guaranteed to all our vessels.
