On 9 and 10 April, the Joint Committee meetings on road transport between Italy and Türkiye took place in Istanbul, with the participation of the Ministries of Infrastructure and Transport of both countries, as well as major industry stakeholders.

Arcese Cosulich Türkiye had the honour of hosting a dinner for the Italian delegation, which included key personalities such as: Donatella Orlandi (MIT, Head of Delegation), Carla Talice (MIT), Alessandra Masoch (MIT), Serenella Crisafulli (MEF), Dr. Ciampi (Italian Customs Agency), and several representatives from leading Italian transport companies.

In the welcoming setting of Turkish cuisine, participants had the chance to discuss the main topics ahead of the official meetings with their Turkish counterparts the next day. The meetings took place in a spirit of mutual understanding and collaboration, leading to several meaningful outcomes. In light of growing trade volumes—over 65,000 vehicles from both countries transported goods on the Italy-Türkiye route in 2024—important steps were taken to support a more sustainable and efficient transport system. Key takeaways included:

  • Promoting green logistics by phasing out EURO 3 vehicles and encouraging the use of both EURO 5 and 6 ones;
  • Transitioning to fully digital documentation to reduce paper use and improve transparency;
  • Agreement on the number of bilateral and transit permits to be exchanged in 2026 and 2027.

At the close of the event, Arcese Cosulich Türkiye welcomed the Italian delegation to a cultural tour of Istanbul’s historic peninsula, followed by a dinner overlooking the Bosphorus. While ports such as Trieste and Bari remain crucial to Italy–Türkiye trade —as key entry points for over 78% of Italian imports and 82% of exports—this event highlighted the importance of institutional dialogue in shaping the future of sustainable international transport.

Arcese Cosulich Türkiye is proud to have hosted the Italian Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport in Istanbul, and we look forward to the next Joint Committee meeting, next year in the port of Trieste.
