The long-awaited arrival of the tunnel boring machine (TBM) marks a crucial milestone in the completion of the Bisagno River flood diversion tunnel, a project aimed at securing the city of Genoa against future flood risks.

The Fratelli Cosulich Group played a crucial role putting in synergies its companies COSCOS and Express Global Italy.

The TBM, transiting through the TSG and IMT terminals, both part of the Ignazio Messina Group. The specialized equipment, transported in components by the vessel DaDe of COSCO Shipping Specialized Carriers (Europe) B.V., is represented in Italy by our colleagues of COSCOS S.r.l.

The cargo includes three main pieces weighing 196 tons each, alongside an additional 2,000 tons of highly specialized machinery.

To facilitate the unloading process, the terminals are utilizing Gottwald mobile cranes with lifting capacities of up to 150 tons. The unloading operations involve handling a total of 5,000 cubic meters of drilling equipment. The customs clearance is managed with the support of Fioravanti Logistic Solutions and Express Global Italy.

All cargo is stored on high-capacity mafi-trailer-platforms, ensuring safe storage before its transport to the construction site. Once assembled, the TBM—measuring over 6 meters in diameter and 30 meters in length—will be capable of excavating a 6-kilometer-long tunnel, connecting the riverbed to the sea.
