Navimeteo and Vaisala Xweather spotlight marine weather forecasting in Italy
On May 14, Navimeteo and Vaisala Xweather hosted “The New Weather Character of the Mediterranean Sea” at the Grand Hotel Torre Fara in Chiavari, bringing together professionals from across the maritime industry to discuss the growing impact of severe weather phenomena on operations at sea.
Organised in cooperation with the Fratelli Cosulich Group through Navimeteo, the event marked Vaisala Xweather’s first industry workshop in Italy and welcomed participants from the shipping, cruise, yachting, meteorological and port operations sectors.
Throughout the afternoon, speakers and guests explored how increasingly frequent thunderstorms, violent wind gusts and rapidly evolving weather systems are influencing navigation, port activities and offshore operations across the Mediterranean.
The programme combined technical sessions, operational case studies and panel discussions focused on weather forecasting, nowcasting and real-time weather intelligence, highlighting the importance of collaboration between technology providers, forecasters and maritime operators.
The event also represented an opportunity to further strengthen the long-standing collaboration between Navimeteo and Vaisala Xweather, which over the years has led to the development of advanced weather monitoring solutions for the maritime sector, including Lightning, Navimeteo’s patented technology dedicated to lightning detection and maritime weather risk monitoring.
By bringing together experts and operators from different international sectors, the workshop once again confirmed the growing importance of dialogue and operational exchange in addressing the evolving challenges linked to maritime safety and weather risk management across the Mediterranean.
